How to calculate marks percentage
Divide the marks you obtained by the total marks and multiply by 100. For example, 876 out of 1100 in Matric is 79.64%, which is grade A. The same method works for Inter (out of 1100 or 1200), university exams and entry tests.
Percentage = marks obtained ÷ total marks × 100
Other percentage formulas
- X% of Y: X ÷ 100 × Y. Example: a 15% discount on Rs 2,500 is Rs 375, so you pay Rs 2,125.
- X is what % of Y: X ÷ Y × 100. Example: 45 out of 60 is 75%.
- Percentage change: (new − old) ÷ old × 100. Example: a price rising from Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,500 is a 25% increase.
