How to calculate GPA and CGPA on the 4.0 scale
Most Pakistani universities use a 4.00 scale. GPA covers one semester; CGPA covers all semesters so far.
Grade points

The marks needed for each letter grade differ by university, so check your handbook.
Semester GPA
GPA = Σ (grade point × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours
Example: A (3 credits), B+ (3), B (4), A- (3), C+ (2). Grade points are 49.66 over 15 credits, so GPA = 3.31.
Cumulative CGPA
CGPA is not the plain average of your semester GPAs, because semesters with more credits count for more.
CGPA = (old CGPA × old credits + new grade points) ÷ (old credits + new credits)
With a previous CGPA of 3.20 over 60 credits, the example semester gives a new CGPA of 3.22.
Repeated courses and percentage
Policies for repeated courses differ between universities. There is also no single CGPA-to-percentage formula that all institutions accept, so use the conversion your university or the receiving organisation publishes.

Frequently asked questions
Is CGPA the average of my GPAs?
No. It is weighted by credit hours, so a 18-credit semester counts more than a 12-credit one.
